April 20th, 1999 is a day that would go down in infamony. When Dylan Kelbold and Eric Harris decided to attack their high school, no one was ready. They planted bombs and brought their illegal firearms with them to finish the job that might be left over. After the bombs didn't detonate they decided to take it into their own hands, walking into the school with trenchcoats concealing their shotguns and handguns. This led to the deaths of 13 students and 23 more injured.
This all started in a way that students and teachers alike have become familiar with. Bullying. Eric and Dylan were outsiders. They did not fit in with the cliques and chose to spend their time making threats. Over the course of the school year they made threats against other students saying they would "kill them all".
This hit home hard as Americans had never experienced an attack on kids specifically before. Many contributed this to new video games that included shooting, but factually it was based on bullying and mean kids. These teens were outsiders and didn't fit in to any clique or group. This caused them to stick out and allowed some other teens an opportunity. Although no person should ever go to this extreme of action over bullying more steps should have been made to prevent this attack. Hopefully in the future schools can guarantee a safe environment that all students can flourish in.

My father was shocked at the news of this mass shooting. He never would have expected American children to react in the way they did. I asked him if it scared him about having kids but he responded saying that he never thought or doubted his decision to have kids (such as Kyler and I) He remained firm about the steps schools have to take even now to prevent bullying and help kids who are in tough situations.
